NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Another low pressure system today, unfortunately won’t bring the widespread moisture to the area like the last one did. But some will still have a chance today and tonight. We’ll be looking to later next week for better precipitation potential for our area.

Friday: The majority of the area is beginning the day with clouds, although sunshine is starting to come out already this morning in Southwest Nebraska. Meanwhile, there have been areas of patchy fog, drizzle, and even light rain. The best chance for rain and isolated thunderstorms today will be over Eastern Nebraska. Meanwhile, light rain and snow in Northern Nebraska will wind down, before a little bit returns overnight. Meanwhile, we’ll see breezy winds for most of the area today, but the strongest winds will be over Southwest Nebraska. These areas west and southwest of the Tri-Cities will be under a Red Flag Warning through the early evening hours as there will be an elevated wildfire threat there. High temperatures will be as cool as the upper 30s and lower 40s northeast to as warm as the 60s in far Southeast Nebraska and Southwest Nebraska/Northwest Kansas. Winds will remain brisk overnight as temperatures fall back into the mid to upper 20s and lower 30s.

Saturday and Sunday: Saturday will be a rather blustery day across the area as northwest winds kick in around 15 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 30 to 40 mph. Clouds will linger the longest in the northeast with more sun as you go to the southwest. Highs will range from the mid/upper 40s northeast to the low/mid 60s southwest. Skies will be clear and winds will die down Saturday night. Lows will again dip back to the mid to upper 20s and lower 30s. Despite the chilly start, Easter Sunday will be a nice day with fairly sunny skies and less winds than Saturday. Highs will range from the mid 60s northeast to the low/mid 70s southwest.

Monday and Tuesday: A cold front come south on Monday, bringing a slight chance of light rain or snow. Highs will range from the mid 40s northeast to the mid 60s southwest. The slight chance for light rain and snow will continue Monday night into Tuesday. Temperatures do warm up some on Tuesday into the 50s northeast and 60s elsewhere. Some may get close to 70°.

Wednesday and Beyond: Wednesday will be warmer and wind with highs returning to the 70s and lower 80s. But cooler air and moisture move back into the area Wednesday night into Thursday. There’s still plenty of uncertainty to the finer details, but there’s a bit more promise for precipitation for our area for the later portions of next week and into next weekend.
